💎 Afternoon tea inspired by Operation Mincemeat and the secret history of the former Old War Office, today a 5-star landmark. Five cakes, five chapters of a top-secret WWII operation, served in the former headquarters of British military intelligence. The experience draws on the building’s past as a hub of British intelligence, where 20th-century spies were once briefed and where the Military Intelligence Service evolved into what would become MI5 and MI6. Created in collaboration with the award-winning musical Operation Mincemeat, this new afternoon tea revisits the daring 1943 British deception that misled Nazi Germany about the Allied invasion of Sicily. Pastry and kitchen teams have designed five themed cakes around the operation, from a briefcase concealing secret documents to a submarine and a fictional love letter. Expect a tiered selection of cakes and pastries, alongside traditional finger sandwiches and freshly baked scones, served with tea in The Drawing Room, a setting steeped in political and espionage history.
